Our mission

Our mission is to empower organisations to enhance practical support for employees with caring responsibilities, enabling working families to thrive within the organisational landscape.

We are passionate about ensuring every working parent or carer, no matter their background, is supported and uplifted. In this way, we seek to contribute to the debate on the future of work by considering the future of working families.

Our goal is to create a work environment that is inclusive and supportive of all employees, regardless of their family circumstances. We believe that every employee should have the opportunity to thrive in their career and we are committed to providing the necessary resources and support to make that happen.

By prioritising the needs of working families, we can create a more productive and engaged workforce that is better equipped to meet the challenges of the future.

The nuclear family

Traditionally, research has perpetuated the idea of the 'nuclear family' as a mother and father living together with their biological children, emphasising gender-based roles. However, this notion fails to capture the diverse array of family structures and parenting arrangements prevalent today.

In collaboration with consultancy experts, we have created a toolkit to help organisations to revolutionise their approach to family-friendly policies and practices. Our research shows that current policies are failing modern families, including dual-career households, single parents, and those experiencing regular family disruption.

The consequences of this are far-reaching, resulting in employees down-skilling or leaving the workforce, negatively impacting their personal well-being and employment, as well as the UK economy.

The changing workplace

Given the transformation of the contemporary workplace, the lines between professional responsibilities and family life have blurred. The rise of hybrid and remote working has amplified the need for responsive, flexible, and customised support options.

Our research-based toolkit seeks to give managers and their employees the tools to challenge their assumptions about traditional definitions of a "working family" and revolutionise support practices to better serve the needs of working families within today’s changing workplace.

Embracing Family Diversity in the Workplace

Fundamentally, families are at the core of your employees' lives and an integral pillar of our society. The workforce simply cannot thrive without their support.

When you think of 'family,' you might envision the traditional nuclear model – heterosexual married parents with their biological children under one roof. This conventional image often shapes 'family-friendly' policies in organisations.

In reality, families are as diverse as the individuals within them, with varying needs, responsibilities, and dynamics that evolve over time. Family life is fluid, and it's crucial for our workplace strategies reflect this reality, whether employees are working from the office or at home, or both.
